Lukashenko to visit Orsha for inspection

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is set to visit Orsha to check the fulfillment of the city development instructions. The Belarusian head of state announced these plans at a meeting with ministers and local authorities on 7 August, BelTA has learned.

In his words, this event will be a litmus test of the government's work. “I would never want to have a tough talk in public with ministers and the prime minister in Orsha. My instructions for Orsha should be fulfilled. Tasks were set, documents were signed, and everything is under control. We will scrutinize everything, from culture and sport to manufacturing, to say nothing of the social status of the city, its social appeal and the way it looks,” the president emphasized.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that Orsha should be an example and a model for other big cities in various parts of the country. All of them should be to a high standard of living. “It is not only about people and jobs. It is also about the proper distribution of labor force. If we cut housing construction volumes in Minsk, which consequently reduces the inflow of workforce to Minsk, this workforce should be equally distributed across Belarus. Not only in oblast capitals, but first of all, in such big cities that will be developed as agribusiness hubs. This is the essence of my demands,” the head of state said.

The president touched upon the state of things in Gomel Oblast. In particular, he shared his views on the harvesting campaign in the region. According to Alexander Lukashenko, the harvesting pace is not adequate. The head of state noted that these matters will be discussed among other things during his forthcoming working visit to Gomel.
