Lukashenko to pay official visit to Georgia 22-23 March

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will pay an official visit to Georgia on 22-23 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The program of the visit includes official negotiations with Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili. The head of state will discuss the current state and prospects of the trade and economic cooperation. They will also discuss the diversification and intensification of product deliveries, development of production cooperation, establishment of joint enterprises, cooperation in science, education and medicine, transport and logistics, implementation of infrastructure projects.

Alexander Lukashenko and Giorgi Margvelashvili will also discuss political cooperation, international contacts, the situation in the world and in the region.

After the talks the sides are expected to sign a number of international documents.

Apart from that, the Belarusian head of state is expected to meet with Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.

As part of the official visit of the Belarusian head of state the Georgian capital city will also host the Minsk Days and the Georgian-Belarusian Business Forum. Representatives of ministries and agencies of the two countries, local authorities, business circles will discuss the prospects of cooperation in certain fields, sign corresponding agreements and contracts. Tbilisi will also host a number of cultural and sports events, an exposition of products of Minsk-based enterprises.

The Belarusian-Georgian relations have been increasingly vibrant in recent years thanks to the agreements which were reached by the leaders of the two countries during the first official visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Georgia in 2015 and the official visit of Giorgi Margvelashvili to Belarus in March 2017.

In 2017, the bilateral trade of Belarus and Georgia reached $93.5 million (up 26.5% from the level of 2016). Belarus' export made up $73.8 million, import totaled $19.7 million. There are 15 representative offices, affiliated companies, subjects of the commodity distribution network of Belarusian enterprises in Georgia. There are 19 enterprises with the Georgian capital in Belarus, including 13 joint ventures.
