Lukashenko to attend Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting

ASTANA, 31 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will attend a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana on 31 May, BelTA has learned.

Its participants will hold one-on-one and extended meetings. Belarus will be particularly interested to discuss the concept of the development of the common markets of gas, oil, and oil products in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

According to Belarus' Ambassador to Kazakhstan Anatoly Nichkasov, EEU is viewed as a common space. Every country should have an equal access to the transport oil and gas infrastructure. “We should have an opportunity to process these products at our companies in order to produce a new product and sell it on the domestic market and be competitive with it abroad. We need time to get ready for this. Today our countries will discuss what progress we have achieved in the development of such markets,” the diplomat said.

In his words, there are also other areas for discussion and joint activity. Among them is the creation of the common market of services which will provide the EEU economies a serious prospect for growth. These areas also include the formation of the united financial market.

The development of the common market of pharmaceutical products and medical goods remains high on the agenda. “We should take use of the unified approaches, standards and principles in such important fields as the production of medications. Ii is an important matter for Belarus. We successfully make such products for export,” Anatoly Nichkasov said.

It is expected that in Astana the heads of state will talk over the main guidelines of the macroeconomic policy of the EEU member states for 2016-2017 and the implementation of the main areas in the EEU international activity.

The agenda of the meeting will also comprise the issues related to development of the EEU economic relations with third countries and key integration associations. According to Anatoly Nichkasov, this corresponds to the integration of integrations concept. “We should cooperate and agree on single principles and approaches, attract countries interested in union relations in order to make this market a successful one. Over 40 states show interest in concluding agreements with the EEU and its member states,” the Ambassador added.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is currently in Kazakhstan on a working visit. He has already held a bilateral meeting with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The leaders of the two countries discussed the issues of the bilateral agenda, cooperation in integration associations and the international agenda.
