MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko supports the idea of creating conditions for the use of driverless cars in the country, IT investor Viktor Prokopenya told reporters on 13 March, BelTA has learned.
“We have voiced the idea of driverless cars. What we need to do now is to develop corresponding regulations for Belarus to allow such vehicles on public roads. Alexander Lukashenko expressed his support for the idea and agreed to have a ride once he has such a chance,” Viktor Prokopenya said.
He noted that Belarus could become one of the first countries to develop the driverless vehicles sector. Such cars can appear on the roads of the country in the near future. “To date, driverless vehicles are not governed by legislation in most countries. Legislation in the field will encourage global companies to come to Belarus and roll out driverless vehicles on our roads. As a result, people will be able to see modern technologies in action,” the investor noted.
