Lukashenko reelected NOC president

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – Belarusian head of state Alexander Lukashenko was reelected President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus at the Olympic meeting of the Belarusian NOC on 30 May, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko's candidacy for the post of the President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus was proposed by USSR Honored Master of Sports, Olympic champion in kayak and canoe, Honored Figure of Physical Education and Sports, Honored Coach of Belarus Sergei Makarenko.

Honored Master of Sports Andrei Astashevich was elected First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee. Rector of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian handball Federation Sergei Repkin and Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Semyon Shapiro were elected NOC vice presidents.

The new Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus included Dmitry Baskov, Valentin Borovok, Dmitry Pinevich, Sergei Rumas, Ivan Tikhon, Lyubov Cherkashina, Yuri Shevtsov, Oleg Shepel, and Anton Yuspa.

Well-known athletes such as three-time Olympic champion in wrestling Alexander Medved, Olympic champion in discus throwing Ellina Zvereva and Olympic champion in fencing Alexander Romankov honorary members of the National Olympic Committee.

Participants of the meeting discussed issues related to the introduction of amendments and additions to the Charter of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, considered the report of the review board on the activity of the National Olympic Committee in 2013-2016. The new review board of the Belarusian NOC will consist of Igor Katibnikov, Vladimir Amarin, Aleksei Afanasyev, and Inessa Pavlyuchik.

Alexander Lukashenko took the post of the NOC President on 15 May 1997.
