Lukashenko praises Lithuania Ambassador's contribution to bilateral relations

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko highly appreciates the contribution of the Ambassador of Lithuania to the strengthening of the Belarusian-Lithuanian relations. The head of state made a relevant statement on 7 July as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Belarus Evaldas Ignatavicius whose diplomatic mission to Belarus is coming to an end, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that he meets with those outgoing ambassadors who “have made a great contribution to the development of the relations, worked to strengthen bilateral ties and have done a lot over their time in Belarus to bring the nations closer together.”

“It is also a fact that you are another ambassador who has been working for the benefit of Belarus and Lithuania. I consider you one of such ambassadors. I understand that you serve your country. You may pursue your own interests, and still you understand that Belarus is a neighboring state that is not a stranger to Lithuania,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state recalled that once Belarus and Lithuania were part of the same country. “You remember this, and this leaves a certain mark on us, probably even imposes an obligation,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

The Belarusian leader emphasized: “You have certain commitments towards your partners in the European Union, NATO and so on. You know about our situation. We also have obligations to our partners. Still, we have always been able to come to an agreement and find a path we are both ready to walk on together.” Alexander Lukashenko thanked Evaldas Ignatavicius for his contribution to the development of the Belarusian-Lithuanian relations.
