Lukashenko points to stable currency and inflation in Belarus

SHKLOV DISTRICT, 23 April (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko emphasized the stability of currency and inflation in the country as he spoke to reporters during the National Clean-Up Day on 21 April, BelTA informs.

“The Belarusian ruble is stable for the time being. As for the expectations, I would rather draw a parallel. Remember when we had to adopt a tighter monetary policy? This is when all expectations about the ruble devaluation emerged. People were thinking about what would happen to the ruble. You have almost forgotten about it by now. Yes, some people in Russia often raise concerns about it. We hear them, too. There are no fluctuations and volatility in the currency market, stock market, and so on. This is why everything has become more stable,” Alexander Lukashenko highlighted.

Last year Belarus managed to keep the inflation rate at an acceptable predicted level, he added. “We will also forget about this in a year. There will be stability. The pricing now is not so messy it used to be back then,” the president said.

“The inflation is still in place, however. I acknowledge it. I understand that we are still working on it. You know my requirements: employment, wages, and price. These things combined will bring results this year,” the Belarusian leader believes.
