MOSCOW, 15 December (BelTA) – I am confident that the ties between the Belarusian and Russian peoples can become even closer, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on 15 December, BelTA has learned.
“We know what Russia wants from Belarus. I am sure that Russia knows very well what Belarus needs from Russia. I believe that the solution of the existing problem will draw our nations even closer. Frankly speaking, it is not right to see our relations through the classical framework of international relations with other states. We have such close ties that these criteria do not fit in here,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “We are ready to discuss and address the issues we are facing today,” the President added.
For his part, Vladimir Putin said that the presidents of the two countries have a lot to talk about. According to him, Russia was looking forward to the official visit of Alexander Lukashenko and is happy that despite the current problems the Belarusian leader arrived for an in-depth conversation on the full range of issues related to bilateral relations.
