Lukashenko: Peace-loving policy should rely on the country's ability to protect its people

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – Peace-loving policy should rely on the country's ability to protect its people, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

“History taught us that any peace-loving policy should rely on the real ability of the state to protect its people. Speaking about security, I always repeat the idea that it is essential to keep gunpowder dry. Combat-ready Armed Forces, the system of territorial defense, and efficient law enforcement institutions are a guarantee of peace and tranquility on our soil. But now I want to emphasize that the defense capacity of the country relies on its economic strength and the spirit of people,” the head of state said.

In his words, the size and structure of law enforcement agencies have been adapted to the optimal needs of reliable defense and the economic potential of the state. “It does not mean that we have stopped optimizing law enforcement agencies, we are doing it regularly and will do it in the future,” Alexander Lukashenko said. One of the key tasks of the defense industry is to provide soldiers with state-of-the-art weapons and vehicles without which they will not be able to protect the native country. “Our scientists and defense organizations joined efforts to design and successfully test the multiple-launch rocket system Polonez in densely populated Belarus. This system is as good as the world's best samples of precision weapons. And it was made in Belarus,” the President reminded.

“It means that we have created a new promising industry – rocket building, which is the manufacture of powerful deterrent weapons. These weapons have been already delivered to the Belarusian army. It will give a serious boost to Belarus' defense capacity,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

By the way, according to the President, the military cooperation between Belarus and Russia will be continues. This pertains to the regional deployment of forces. Belarus will also continue cooperating with the CSTO member states and other countries.

“Today the Belarusian army can be by right called the school of courage, civic consciousness, and patriotism,” the head of state added.
