Lukashenko: Money earned by Belarus invested in economic development not yachts for oligarchs

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) - Thanks to the strong role of the state, all the money earned by the state is invested in the development of the economy and social sector, head of state Alexander Lukashenko said when speaking at a solemn meeting on the occasion of the Independence Day of Belarus on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that billions of dollars have been invested in manufacturing, the agricultural sector, infrastructural projects, including the construction of roads. Thanks to the strong role of the state, all the funds earned by the country are invested not in foreign offshores, villas or yachts for oligarchs, but in the development of the economy and social sector,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

The President recalled that the history of sovereign Belarus started in the wake of the geopolitical tragedy: the destruction of the Soviet Union, the collapse of the economy and the degradation of all spheres of society. However, already in 2001, the country restored the pre-perestroika level of industrial production, and has already exceeded it by more than half by now. During this period, wages of Belarusians have increased fourfold, pensions nearly five times.

“We have achieved all this not through miracles and magic spells, but thanks to the hard work of our people. We have not allowed looting of the industries under the guise of privatization. We saved jobs and skills. We created an efficient power vertical with personal responsibility of government officials for the certain areas of work. We identified the priorities, and concentrated all available resources on the most promising areas. We mobilized all forces to address the critical economic challenges,” the head of state said.

As a result, in the shortest possible time Belarus solved the problems of food security, the importance of which is hard to overestimate today when many countries have faced sanctions.

“We have created the basis for the development of new knowledge-based industries, including aerospace and biotechnology. We launch our own satellites. We are successfully implementing the largest nuclear power project. We manufacture trains and cars. Serious advances have been made in the development of information technology. In terms of export IT-related services Belarus is already ahead of all CIS countries,” the Belarusian leader noted.

The President also noted that Belarusian towns and villages are now well-kept and comfortable for living. Forests, rivers and lakes, nature reserves and hunting areas are well-maintained. This shows that the systemic work of the authorities to restore order leads to a gradual change in the psychology of people. They are starting to perceive the surrounding environment as their home. Foreigners visiting Belarus admire its natural and man-made beauty,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
