Lukashenko: Language issue has been solved once and for all in Belarus

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – A language issue has been solved once and for all in Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said, addressing the press pool after he cast his vote at the parliamentary election on 17 November, BelTA informs.

However, the president did not exclude that the role of the Belarusian language will increase in the future. “It is already increasing. But the language issue has been solved once and for all in the country,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state recalled that he had made a corresponding statement in his State of the Nation Address in April 2019. “Do not raise this issue at all, it has been closed in Belarus. We have two state languages – Russian and Belarusian. Not Ukrainian, not Russia's language, but the Russian language. You understand – the Russian language, and we have put our soul into it. People died, fought together with Russians. This is our common legacy,” the president said back then. “If you want to lose your minds, you will lose the Russian language! If you want to lose your hearts, you will lose the Belarussian language! What do you want to lose – your minds or your hearts?”
