Lukashenko instructs to build children's science park by September 2018

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko instructed to set up a children's science park in Belarus by 1 September 2018 as he spoke at the second Congress of Scientists of Belarus on 13 December, BelTA has learned.

Belarus may be proud of the performance of school and university students at international competitions, the head of state underlined. Belarus president's special fund supports the most talented students. However, Alexander Lukashenko believes, the time has come to bring youth outreach activities to a new level. The most talented teachers and professors should be brought together to work with the younger generations as part of high-technology scientific platforms.

“If we need to build a children's science park with the participation of Belarus' leading universities, let us do this. Maybe, we should even build a whole lot of parks at the universities that would like to do this. I instruct the Education Ministry to handle this task together with the Academy of Sciences, oblast executive committees, and the Minsk City Hall by 1 September 2018,” the president noted.

In his opinion, the interest in science should be cultivated at school. “Universities often do not know how many gifted school students there are. The link between the school and the university is broken. In order to inspire yesterday's school students to become young scientists, teachers should pay attention to each of them. This is not difficult at all,” Alexander Lukashenko underlined.

He stressed that a database of gifted young people has been set up in the country. It should be used to encourage talented youths to go into science. “There are plenty of them in Belarus. I met with them and took a look at their projects: school students develop 3D printers. So take them under your wing,” the president said.
