Lukashenko expresses condolences to Japan, Ecuador over earthquake victims

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has expressed condolences to Emperor Akihito of Japan and President Rafael Correa Delgado of Ecuador, the people of these countries over a massive loss of life caused by the earthquakes in these countries, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

The death toll of the earthquakes which hit Japan on 14 April and 16 April reached 41 people. More than 2,000 people were injured, about 170 people were severely injured. The earthquake destroyed many houses, roads and infrastructure objects. Overnight into 17 April there was an earthquake near Ecuador. It killed 77 people and injured more than 600 people. Dozens of houses and infrastructure objects were destroyed. An emergency has been declared in the country. This was called the strongest earthquake in the past decades.
