Lukashenko: death toll from road accidents, fires is inadmissible

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – It is inadmissible that so many people are dying in road accidents and fires, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the session of the Security Council on 13 February, BelTA informs.

The head of state spoke about a very important topic, which is the security and protection of people. “At present Belarus is not hit by big accidents, we overcome consequences of bad weather rather quickly,” he said. The president emphasized that the death toll from fires fell almost three times in ten years, the number of child victims reduced 15 times. Occupational fatality reduced more than two times, the number of under the influence victims fell four times.

“However, 500 victims of fires per year is an inadmissible figure for us. Besides, 1,000 people die in road accidents. The death toll is 1,500 people,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

According to the head of state, it is needed to enhance requirements to the mitigation of emergencies because the range of possible technical risks and other extreme conditions has expanded. The head of state asked if the emergencies minister has any proposals and solutions.
