Lukashenko congratulates Belarusian tennis team on Fed Cup victory

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko attended the Fed Cup World Group quarterfinal between Belarus and the Netherlands at Chizhovka Arena in Minsk on 12 February. The head of state watched crucial matches and rooted for the Belarusian tennis players. After the match he congratulated them on their victory, BelTA has learned.

“Thank you! You were amazing! You played very well!” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko also talked to the representatives of the Netherlands team. “Thank you! You were great, you have a good team,” he said.

All the matches at Chizhovka Arena were very tough, but Belarusian athletes were stronger than their rivals from the Netherlands. They secured Belarus' overall win in the Fed Cup World Group quarterfinal and qualified for the semifinal.

It was reported earlier that before the match the President talked to Belarusian players and wished them good luck. “Of course, I am not going to teach you. I want to say that you should not worry. I do not mean that you should forget everything on court. It is impossible for athletes. You played yesterday, you should not worry now. Good luck!” the head of state said.

Belarus defeated the Netherlands in the Fed Cup World Group quarterfinal with the total score of 4:1. In the Fed Cup World Group semifinal Belarus will face Switzerland on 22-23 April.
