Lukashenko calls for stronger coordinating role of sectoral bodies in CIS

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The coordinating role of the sectoral cooperation bodies in the Commonwealth of Independent States should be strengthened, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with the heads of the government delegations of the EEU and the CIS member states in Minsk on 28 October, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian leader believes that the activities of the sectoral cooperation bodies should be well-systematized and target-specific. “Some of the bodies have been operating for decades without making contribution to the development of the Commonwealth. And it is exactly at this level that experts work to create specific content for political decisions. The results of their work shape the vision of the benefits of the CIS for individuals, organizations, enterprises and countries,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

He emphasized that all these issues are not new. It is just necessary to consider them from a different angle and adjust them to the present-day reality. “This will be the best way to upgrade the CIS,” the head of state believes.
