“It is important that today the Belarusian border guards keep ward of not only the national interests of the country, but also of the regional and international security,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state emphasized that being on key transit routes connecting North and South, Europe and Asia, Belarus is a reliable partner to many states in preventing and suppressing cross-border crime, illegal business and other negative processes.

“Our servicemen managed to significantly reduce the flow of illegal migrants into the European Union. Internationally wanted persons are regularly identified at the border. Along with other law enforcement agencies, drug trafficking channels are regularly disclosed,” the president said.

Alexander Lukashenko stated that today's world is still unpredictable, with military confrontation taking place practically on all the continents.

“You know better than anyone that armed clashes start at the border. The complex international situation and the danger of terrorist acts make it necessary to continuously maintain a high level of combat readiness of the border services,” the head of state said.

To improve combat capability and mobility, the border troops are equipped with the latest technology and weapons. The frontiers are being equipped, with modern complexes of outposts being built and the living conditions for personnel improved.

“You keep the glorious military traditions, and you must always remember this. It is the border troops that are ones of the few, and perhaps the only ones, that are always in full combat readiness. This combat readiness must be maintained at the proper level,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to the president, today, like a hundred years ago, it is impossible to ensure reliable security on the border without the support of the local population. Therefore, it is necessary to improve interaction with the inhabitants of the border area on a regular basis.

“We have good people who are always ready to help,” Alexander Lukashenko added.
