Lukashenko: Belarus will not change its friendly policy towards Russia

MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) – Belarus' friendly policy towards Russia will not change, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko told the media after the wreath ceremony at the Victory Monument to mark the 73rd anniversary of the Great Victory on 9 May, BelTA informs.

“Our policy towards Russia will not change. You know this policy, its moral principles. These are our brothers and we are not going to fight with them,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

“If Russia decides to go further, we are ready to make our cooperation stronger. We advocate cooperation in the economy, the common market without all these silly disagreements: milk, meat and sugar wars,” the president said.

In his words, the development of bilateral relations depends on how Russia is ready to pursue the course of integration, taking into account Belarus' interests.

“Today our relations are based on pragmatism. Both Russia and we see certain pragmatism in cooperation. However, it is not right to stop at this level or maintain cooperation only with Russia. I have said this before. We pursue the same policy as Russia does. We are diversifying our relations, first of all, in the economic sector,” the head of state added.
