Lukashenko awards director of Belarusian school in Riga

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed a relevant decree to award Anna Ivane, the Director of the Riga Belarusian school named after Yanka Kupala, the Francysk Skaryna Medal in recognition of her significant contribution to the promotion and development of education in the Belarusian language, the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Belarusians in Latvia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

Anna Ivane was at the origins of the school, the only educational institution in Latvia teaching the Belarusian language and literature. The children's ensemble Vaverachka, numerous artistic hobby groups have been set up at the school with her direct participation. Today the school actually works as the Belarusian cultural and educational center.

Thanks to the efforts of Anna Ivane, the school has set up a museum that hosts the expositions dedicated to the life and work of prominent figures of the Belarusian literature and art. There is a Belarusian literature library at the school whose book collection is expanding. The school students go on regular trips to various regions of Belarus.
