MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – History must not be rewritten to glorify Alexander Lukashenko. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement while talking to representatives of Russian regional mass media in Minsk on 17 November, BelTA has learned.
“We have to look at the present before trying to adjust the past. We shouldn't throw stones at the past. We don't do it because the past is ambiguous,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
The head of state noted that other countries had often bent history to match politics. Belarus has managed to avoid that. “Right after becoming the president of the country, I told Belarusian intellectuals I don't want them to try and match my tastes. I told them not to rewrite history to glorify my actions,” noted the Belarusian leader.
According to the President, intellectuals should not be forced to dance to the tune of the current leader. “I believe such actions diminish the value of intellectuals. It should not be done,” stressed Alexander Lukashenko.
The history that has been created by generations should be passed on to children and grandchildren just the way it happened without revising anything. History is not ideal, there is nothing ideal. It is necessary to look at history from an objective point of view, noted the head of state.
