Local authorities in Belarus encouraged to focus on services sector

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – Local authorities need to focus on the development of the services sector, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he approved the appointment of Mikhail Grishkevich and Alexander Kaminsky chairmen of the district executive committees of Kobrin and Lyakhovichi respectively, BelTA has learned.

“Companies of the services sector need to be upgraded. These include consumer services companies, sewing and hairdressing shops. They should meet people's expectations. The same applies to trade, of course. You know the situation on the ground. You will need to deal with these issues,” the president said.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that he visits district organizations more often during his working trips around the country. For example, recently he studied the state of affairs in Zhitkovichi District. “Frankly, I liked the way things were going there and their plans for the future. You need to remember that you are the heads of the district and that you must have appropriate tools and levers. Every district should have a construction organization, an agricultural service organization. But we need to provide services not only to agricultural and industrial enterprises but also to people,” the Belarusian leader noted.

The president also touched upon the agricultural sector. “Interaction with people, discipline and technology are the primary areas of focus for the local authorities,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko warned against abuse of power. “We keep the whole power vertical under strict control, especially in what concerns corruption,” the president said.
