Hi-Tech Park to take charge of some underused buildings in Minsk

MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – Some of the inefficiently used buildings and territories located near Yakub Kolas Square in Minsk will be given into operational management of the Hi-Tech Park (HTP). This decision was made following a meeting with the president to discuss the use of the state property located in Kulman Street, Vera Kharuzhaya Street and Yakub Kolas Street, Chairman of the State Property Committee Andrei Gayev told reporters.

He noted that an instruction has been given to ensure proper development of the territory within the boundaries of these streets and create knowledge-based high-tech facilities. “The main entity that will develop this territory is the HTP. It will create space for programmers and companies planning to develop new business ideas. There will also be private investors to provide maintenance, trade, public catering services. This area in the center of Minsk should meet all modern requirements,” Andrei Gayev said.

“Appropriate solutions have been defined. The head of state set the most stringent deadlines for the implementation of this concept. Within two years this area should acquire a brand new look,” Andrei Gayev said.

He noted that the HTP plans to invest heavily, some $30 million, in the development of the area. This area is in proximity to the universities with which the HTP cooperates closely.

The Chairman of the State Property Committee also emphasized that the interests of all the entities that already operate in that area will be legally protected. “The necessary decisions have been taken. All the entities that will be affected by this project will get compensation,” he said.

The meeting with the participation of the president focused on the development of an area in Minsk and also considered the general issues relating to the effort to tidy up population centers and bring a new life to underused properties.

BelTA reported earlier that President Alexander Lukashenko expressed his criticism of the current situation in Minsk with the Minsk Production Association for Computing Machinery (MPOVT) failing to utilize the vacated premises for the organization of manufacture of marketable products.

The President gave instructions to finalize the draft resolution on the use of this territory during the week. The head of state also drew attention to the need to develop and adopt a single concept for exterior design of the buildings.
