Cell technology center may be established in Belarus

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – The President gave an instruction to study the prospects of establishing a cell technology center in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The need to establish this center was discussed at the nationwide scientific conference “New technologies in medicine”. Alexander Lukashenko met with the participants of this conference.

The President stressed that it is very important to choose the right way of medicine development. In his opinion, it is necessary to use knowledge and the best practices to move forward. As for the prospects of establishing a cell technology center, Alexander Lukashenko deems it necessary to study foreign practices and choose the right direction.

Director of the National Center of children's Oncology, Hematology and Immunology Olga Aleinikova said that cell and biotechnologies are the things of the future. She also noted that in recent years Belarus has done a lot to develop healthcare. Huge investments in the establishment and modernization of research centers and hospitals pay off. Modern methods are used to treat many diseases and save thousands of lives. A new center and a lab at the National Oncology and Medical Radiology Center open up new prospects in cancer diagnostics and treatment.

Belarus pays much attention to the diagnostics, prevention and treatment of cancer. As part of the national comprehensive program of cancer prevention, diagnostics and treatment for 2011-2014, cancer treatment organizations have been upgraded and renovated throughout the country. Over 80 new methods of cancer diagnostics and treatment complying with international standards have been designed and introduced. The National Oncology and Medical Radiology Center was founded in 1960. It is the main specialized research and healthcare institution of cancer treatment in Belarus. It also serves as a Minsk Oblast oncologic dispensary.
