Belarus to continue to diversify export markets

PINSK, 27 May (BelTA) - Belarus will continue to diversify export markets, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with the staff of Amkodor-Pinsk on 27 May, BelTA has learned.

“We need to explore new markets in Asia, Africa, Latin America, European Union, the United States, without losing the main Russian market, of course,” the President said.

The head of state noted that the recent collapse in the Russian and Ukrainian markets in terms of demand and sales has adversely affected the Belarusian economy. “This is because we did not manage to diversify export markets. Although 15 years ago we sold more than 80% of our goods in Russia. Today it is less than 50% today. We have done a good job. But the Russian market still has an influence on us. If they have problems, we have too,” the Belarusian leader said.

“This is the reason why we are diversifying the markets but keeping an eye on the Russian market. It is close. Moreover, the equipment that we produce is in demand in Russia,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
