Belarus president visits cognac distillery in Tbilisi

TBILISI, 22 March (BelTA) – After official negotiations Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili visited the Tbilisi cognac distillery on 22 March, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian head of state was informed in detail about the history of the company, about various peculiarities of cognac production and consumption.

According to the company's management, one of their cognac spirits has been kept in storage since 1893. It is considered a national treasure, however, visiting dignitaries are allowed to sample it. Alexander Lukashenko availed himself of the opportunity. He and Giorgi Margvelashvili appreciated the taste of the mature beverage.

Alexander Lukashenko rose his glass in a toast to the great and wise Georgian people and its sons. In turn, the Georgian president proposed a toast to the Belarusian people. The two presidents signed barrels of cognac, which were laid in their honor.

Alexander Lukashenko and Giorgi Margvelashvili also did some blending (spirits of different maturity were mixed to produce ready-made beverage) and sealed another barrel in anticipation of the 25th anniversary of Belarus-Georgia relations.

The Tbilisi cognac distillery is the oldest and largest cognac producer in Georgia. It was founded by the prominent businessman and scientist David Sarajishvili in 1888.
