Belarus president views bribe-taking law enforcers as traitors

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Law enforcement officers, who are tasked with fighting corruption and yet they take bribes, are traitors. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the expanded participation session of the Investigation Committee on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said he was confident that the most dreadful thing is the people, whose job is to fight corruption yet they take bribes. “It is a treason. The worst quality of a human being,” stressed the President.

This is why Alexander Lukashenko instructed the Investigation Committee to ruthlessly eradicate corrupted elements among their ranks and to pay more attention to the moral climate in the organization. It will allow the Committee to be a united, smoothly and effectively operating agency, the President was convinced. The Committee comprises former officers of various law enforcement agencies, including police, the prosecution service, and the State Security Committee. Alexander Lukashenko called upon Investigation Committee personnel to borrow positive experience from their previous jobs and distill the best practices for the common good. At the same time increasing the highly qualified personnel potential remains a priority.
