MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will go on a working trip to Minsk Oblast today, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

Alexander Lukashenko is expected to visit a BelGee car factory in order to participate in the opening ceremony. A number of government officials, top executives of the company, representatives of major Chinese companies will also take part in the ceremony.

Alexander Lukashenko will be informed about the social and economic development of the region, the fulfillment of his instructions to start manufacturing cars, about the organizational and technological structure of SZAO BelGee, about the state of manufacturing, the financial and economic state of the company, and the company's development prospects.

Alexander Lukashenko will also be made familiar with modern technologies used to weld, assemble, and paint cars. He will also examine the cars the factory makes now and the models it intends to make in the future.

SZAO BelGee and the Chinese company CITIC Construction signed the contract on building a car factory in Borisov District, Minsk Oblast in line with presidential decree No.35 of 16 January 2014.

It was the first project to build a full-cycle factory abroad for Geely Company. It was the first major automobile engineering project for CITIC Construction. The factory able to make 60,000 cars per annum has been built within 2.5 years. Belarusian specialists used to perform a small number of SKD assembly operations at the old manufacturing site in Borisov. Now the Belarusian specialists have mastered the technology to weld the car body, paint it, and assemble the rest of the car.

The factory's infrastructure is designed to make up to 120,000 cars per annum. Bearing the fact in mind, it is possible to double the current production floor. The existing infrastructure and spare space at the site also allow setting up new manufacturing facilities.
