Belarus president speaks for reducing workload of school students

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The workload of school students should be smaller than the workload of university students. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he answered questions of young artistes in the Belarusian State Youth Theater on 20 March, BelTA has learned.

The president drew attention to the excessive workload that Belarusian school students have to deal with. “We shouldn't overburden kids in secondary school. We shouldn't make them work as hard as university students,” he said. According to the head of state, secondary schools should teach what young Belarusians will keep in their heads after entering their adulthood.

Senior school students spend six to seven hours in school and several hours doing their homework. Kids often do not have enough time to spare for sport or hobbies, noted the head of state.

There are also problems in universities where the time allotted for training a number of professions has been reduced. According to Alexander Lukashenko, it is necessary to improve the quality of university education. “University should be a step on the way to practical work,” he stressed.
