Belarus president pleased with this year's economic results in CIS space

MOSCOW, 26 December (BelTA) – The economic results achieved in the CIS space this year are prosperous. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement during the informal meeting of the CIS heads of state in the Novo-Ogaryovo residence of the Russian president near Moscow on 26 December, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko stated that trade turnover between the CIS countries rose by nearly 25% in 2017. Belarus' trade with the CIS states went up by nearly 25%, too. “It is a great accomplishment,” noted the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko also stressed that the Eurasian Economic Union had demonstrated strong economic results, too. The Belarus president reminded that the Russian Federation will preside over the Eurasian Economic Union next year. He said he hopes that during its presidency Russia will come up with serious initiatives to bolster the Eurasian Economic Union. Besides, Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarus is in favor of creating common EAEU markets of electricity, natural gas, oil, and oil products in a timely manner.
