Belarus president invited to attend EEU summit in Bishkek

MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has had a telephone conversation with Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

Almazbek Atambayev invited Alexander Lukashenko to attend a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council to discuss current challenges and issues. The next summit of the Eurasian Economic Union member states is scheduled to take place in Bishkek in April-May 2017.

Alexander Lukashenko and Almazbek Atambayev also discussed items on the bilateral agenda, including ways to step up the trade and economic cooperation.

Belarus and Kyrgyzstan have close economic ties. The bilateral trade totaled $53.2 million in 2016, which was slightly below the figures recorded in 2015. January 2017 saw a spike in bilateral trade, an almost three-fold increase against the same period of 2016.

Alexander Lukashenko and Almazbek Atambayev expressed mutual interest in strengthening the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
