Belarus president considering transferring some functions to other branches of power

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Transferring some functions from the head of state to other branches of power may be done. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he met with representatives of the country's largest state-run mass media on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about prospects of amending the Constitution, Alexander Lukashenko remarked that from his point of view some functions should be transferred from the president to other branches of power. “I believe that some functions of the president should be handed over to other branches of power,” said the head of state. In his opinion, the executive power should play a more prominent role.

Alexander Lukashenko noted the time to amend the Constitution has not come yet. “I know for sure it is not the time yet,” stressed the head of state. And mass media will play a noticeable role in determining when the time has come, he added.

The president is convinced that in the course of amending the country's Constitution it is important not to cross out what has already been done. It is important to preserve this legacy and achievement. “We should pass it on to our children and grandchildren,” noted Alexander Lukashenko.
