Belarus president congratulates nation on Victory Day

MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated the nation on Victory Day, BelTA has learned.

The congratulation reads:

“My fellow Belarusians!

“I congratulate you on the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

“For 71 years already the historical date has been one of the brightest, most solemn and significant dates for our nation. We pay a tribute of deep respect to the heroism and selfless courage of the fatherland's defenders while the glorious accomplishments of the soldiers and homefront workers will always be remembered by grateful descendants.

“Belarus was the first country to feel the tremendous blow of the enemy. Belarus paid with lives to slow down the treacherous aggressor. Together with the brotherly nations of the Soviet Union Belarusians went a long way to bring about the long-awaited victory, to free the native land and countries of Europe from the Nazi oppression and to restore destroyed cities and burned-down villages in days of peace.

“On this solemn day we speak from our hearts to thank our war veterans, who felt the troubled years of the war in full measure. We thank them and bow low to them!

“We will always remember and honor the names of millions — those, who fought to secure the fatherland's independence, who spared no effort in their work to secure the great goal.

“I sincerely wish everyone good health, happiness, and confidence in the future,” the message reads.

The congratulation is signed by Alexander Lukashenko.
