Belarus president calls for civilized resolution of disputes in EAEU

SOCHI, 14 May (BelTA) – It is necessary to resolve disputes by civilized means instead of exchanging mutual complaints via mass media. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement during the Eurasian Economic Union summit in Sochi on 14 May, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “It is regional integration associations that create prerequisites for global economy growth today. But instead of trading freely we shut off on each other. Moreover, we exchange mutual complaints even via mass media, risking the international respect for the union. We ignore civilized means of resolving trade disputes via the Eurasian Economic Commission. I absolutely support those, who say today it is necessary to specify the commission's role taking into account our experience and enhance functions of the common economic government.”

Alexander Lukashenko quoted Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who believes that the Eurasian Economic Union member states make problems for each other instead of fighting external threats. The Belarusian leader stressed: “In this complicated situation when the union faces external pressure we should get organized, get united, and secure interests of our countries after making certain conclusions.”

The president remarked that the structure of the economies of the Eurasian Economic Union member states differs to a large degree. Some economies export more raw materials, some economies sell more processed products. “The raw materials base and the manufacturing base of the union are colossal. But we have yet to learn how to use it effectively. We have not worked out universal rules for the common market,” stated the Belarusian head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that the programs on forming the common markets of natural gas, oil, and oil products were not ready for the top level discussion again. “Let's hope we will be able to sign these fundamental documents at least by the end of this year. Don't accuse Belarus of it. We've agreed that we will resolve this issue. It means it has to be resolved,” said the Belarus president.
