Belarus president approves conceptual approaches in foreign policy in 2018

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has approved conceptual approaches in the foreign political and foreign economic activities of the country in 2018, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters after the meeting with the head of state on 18 January, BelTA informs.

“The president was briefed on the operation of the ministry in 2017. And the main thing is that the head of state approved conceptual approaches in our foreign political and foreign economic activities in 2018 and in the upcoming period,” the minister said.

In his words, the president approved the approaches to the development of relations with the European Union. “He was informed about the current situation in our relations and existing topical issues. Clear-cut approaches to the development of relations in the future were approved,” Vladimir Makei said.

The schedule of the president's foreign visits in 2018 and in the upcoming period was discussed as well. The president was informed about major international events which are expected to take place in Belarus in 2018. “There will be a few events. It is expected that high-level officials will also take part in them. There will be events within the framework of the OSCE Counter-Terrorism Conference. We also plan to host one of the important events within the framework of the Munich Security Conference,” the minister said.

Besides, plans have been made to open a memorial in Trostenets. It is expected that the event will be attended by a number of foreign leaders.
