Belarus president against window dressing in reports about Br1,000 salaries

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – Window dressing in achieving the average salary of Br1,000 must not be tolerated. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement in his address to the nation and the parliament on 21 April, BelTA has learned.

The head of state stressed: “We cannot tolerate window dressing in this matter. Don't even think about reporting Br1,000 salaries without proper labor productivity records. The money has to be earned.” Professional executives must be able to enable conditions for earning these salaries, find reserves primarily through proper labor organization.

According to the president, higher salaries should stem from better labor productivity. “It is a complex task. It involves consequent retooling of old enterprises and the establishment of new ones, assimilation of new technologies and automation across the board. We need highly-trained workers and specialists, who can become the key driving force of progress,” noted the head of state. “But such sweeping changes cannot be accomplished within one year. But we can get an immediate response by improving labor organization. I mean a set of measures that begins with trimming the workforce where it is possible — without just kicking people out into the street, such steps need to be approved by municipal authorities, people need to be given other jobs — and ending with proper work ethic, process discipline, and labor remuneration incentives. The scheme should be understandable: you make a product, you sell it, you get money. If you don't make a quality product that sells well, you will not get a good salary.”

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the central government and municipal government agencies had been instructed to secure the country's average salary of at least Br1,000 in 2017.
