Belarus president against redundant government agencies in sport development

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko warned against redundant government agencies, including those in charge of sports development, as he spoke at a conference held on 13 April to discuss the development of winter sports, BelTA has learned.

“Do not fall for some proposals and complaints. Bureaucratic bodies have never moved sports forward. A sports department can be set up in a district, but there will be no sports there. This is not the matter of the power vertical,” the head of state underlined.

A salary range has been formed for the officials from district executive commitees to the Belarus President Administration, he recalled. “I will not raise and regulate salaries for the power vertical anymore. If you want to increase the salaries, you should reduce staff. The money you save up is yours. The same works for district executive committees. If they want to set up a structure there, let it be. They have the payroll budget. No one will pay extra money to them. The authorities can have no sponsors,” Alexander Lukashenko highlighted.

“I think every chairman of the district executive committee has an assistant. Let them oversee sports development in the district,” he added.

“This is why we should not lose control setting up new government agencies. Instead, structures should be established in the regions to build schools and sports centers there. The most important thing is to make them work. They should bear the responsibility and get paid for their job,” the president emphasized.

He continued to speak about coaches and their education at the sports university. “You must make a crucial decision. I hope to see results. We should enroll those who will become coaches after graduation. The selection is terrible,” Alexander Lukashenko summarized.
