Belarus, Georgia sign framework cooperation agreement

TBILISI, 22 March (BelTA) – The framework cooperation agreement between Belarus and Georgia was signed following the talks of the two leaders in Tbilisi. The document was signed by Presidents Alexander Lukashenko and Giorgi Margvelashvili, BelTA has learned.

The document stipulates the intention of Belarus and Georgia to promote cooperation at all levels and in all areas of mutual interest.

The countries agreed on the further development of the political dialogue, the legal framework of bilateral cooperation, cooperation within international organizations, including on key issues of global and regional security.

Belarus and Georgia will continue to work together within the framework of the existing mechanisms for bilateral economic cooperation on a reciprocal basis to enhance intersectoral interaction, strengthen economic ties and bolster direct ties between business entities.

Belarus and Georgia intend to promote contacts at the level of small and medium enterprises and joint projects, to ensure the maximum effective use of transit potential of the parties through implementation of joint projects in the field of transport and logistics, and contribute to the development of international transit corridors.

In addition, Belarus and Georgia will enhance interregional cooperation and interaction in tourism.

The two countries agreed to step up cooperation in education, culture, art, information, youth policy, and support for joint scientific projects.

The two heads of state signed another ten documents to advance cooperation in certian fields, among them a Belarus-Georgia intergovernmental agreement on visa-free travel.

The central banks concluded a memorandum of cooperation and a memorandum of understanding in banking supervision. The Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus and Georgia's Partnership Fund inked a memorandum of cooperation, too.

The Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry and the Georgian Agriculture Ministry signed a protocol of intent. The National Library of Belarus and the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia concluded a cooperation agreement and adopted a program to develop cooperation in higher education.

The Belarusian Healthcare Ministry and the Georgian Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Affairs adopted an action plan to implement an agreement on cooperation in healthcare and medicine.

Agreements on interregional cooperation were also signed between Gomel Oblast and Imereti, the towns of Zhodino and Rustawi.
