MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has appointed new ambassadors, BelTA has learned.

Vasily Markovich was named Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Latvia.

The Belarusian president also appointed Vyacheslav Bril Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cote d'Ivoire on concurrent accreditation.

“The president repeatedly stated that Belarus needs to have good relations with its neighbors. Trade and economic relations should be based on work in seaports, the pipeline, IT sector and other areas. The relations will Latvia have been developing vibrantly. The president stressed that the cooperation potential should be utilized in full for the benefit of the two states,” Vasily Markovich told the media.

Speaking about the preparations for the president's visit to Latvia, the diplomat noted that the goal is to prepare a sound agenda.

As for the relations with Finland, new Ambassador Aleksei Mamosuyev said that Belarus has a good basis for further development of cooperation with the country. The embassy will work to unlock the potential in all the areas and, first of all, in the economic sector. “The task is to outline the priority areas that can be further developed and expanded into new areas of cooperation,” he said.

The ambassador took note of Belarus' interest in cooperation in the woodworking sector. Belarus is also interested in Finland's environmental and nature-oriented practices. “This is the experience we can adopt and implement successfully in Belarus,” he said.

We will be developing the cooperation with Denmark in the same vein. Our main interest is to raise investment, he added.
