Appointment of new directors of Belarusian Gomelglass, Planar okayed

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has authorized the appointment of new directors general of OAO Gomelglass and OAO Planar, BelTA has learned.

Piotr Maksimchikov will be in charge of OAO Gomelglass. His previous position was the company's deputy director general for economy.

Sergei Avakov will become OAO Planar's director general. He will have to quit his job as the director of OAO KBTEM-OMO to assume the new office.

Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered about the state of affairs at the enterprises, the number of personnel they employ, and development prospects of the companies. In particular, the holding company Planar comprises five factories that employ over 1,000 people. The company has three engineering offices. They are merged with the manufacturing division at one of the enterprises.

According to Sergei Avakov, his new company makes competitive products. “One of our plants was recognized the world's best last year. It even beat an American plant and a Japanese one. We've sold it to a cutting-edge enterprise in Taiwan,” he noted.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Do all your enterprises work? Do people work instead of being forced to go on vacation? Are they paid salaries?” The head of state was informed that the holding company operates steadily, with the average salary close to Br1,500.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Gomelglass had played a special role in his destiny just like Planar had. The company employs about 2,000 people and operates at virtually 100% of its capacity. The products sell well on the market. The president warned that he will definitely visit the enterprise the next time he comes to Gomel.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “We've turned it around by the scruff of the neck. The company makes good products but I had concerns – after hearing reports from informed sources – about problems with sales and distribution. There will be no leniency. You know the company, do everything to make it work well. You have no space to retreat. I am serious about it.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko warned the newly appointed executives to avoid middlemen. “Don't listen to anyone who claims they've been sent by the president. Only the president speaks on behalf of the president. Keep away these charlatans. Take care of sales on your own. We can make quality products. We don't want all kinds of middlemen to pocket half of the price!” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
