Agro-towns to become backbone of agro-industry in Belarus

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – Agro-towns will be a backbone of Belarus' agrarian industry in the future, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at a solemn meeting on the occasion of Belarus' Independence Day on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

“We have created 1,500 agro-towns where people will live. These agro-towns provide all necessary conditions for living. We will improve them during the ongoing five-year period and they will become the basis of the agrarian industry in the country,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The Belarus President explained that the country has been investing money in agriculture because land and people are important for the rural areas. Besides, we must ensure food security of the country.

“Do you remember those coupons and people queuing for a piece of sausage and bread? I did not want the people who elected me President to stand in those queues. Today we earn billions of U.S. dollars on our farm exports. Was it that bad that we invested in agriculture?” the head of state said.
