Elections 2016. Yermoshina: Some parties miss the deadline for filing nomination documents

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Not all the political parties filed the nomination to territorial and district commissions on time, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told media on 29 June, BelTA has learned.

“24 June was the last day for nomination. Public organizations and political parties tried to meet the deadline. Unfortunately, not everyone did it in time. All complaints (from those who missed the deadline – BelTA's note) are groundless,” Lidia Yermoshina said. There were errors in some documents from parties, and these documents were not taken forward.

Political parties and public organizations have accounted for more than 50% of members of the district and territorial elections commissions, with parties making up 17.5% of the total membership.

The Communist Party of Belarus, the Belarusian Left Party “A Just World”, and the Liberal and Democratic Party each nominated seven people to territorial election commissions. Lidia Yermoshina added that 16 representatives of the opposition parties were nominated to the territorial election commissions. The United Civic Party of Belarus nominated only one member to all seven territorial commissions. “It turned out that the United Civic Party of Belarus was late with filing its documents. The party sent its documents by mail. No one considered them because they arrived too late,” the CEC head explained.

The Communist Party of Belarus nominated 110 members to district election commissions. The Belarusian Left Party “A Just World” was also active and nominated 65 representatives. The National Party of Labor and Justice nominated 64 representatives and the United Civic Party just one.

Lidia Yermoshina noted that the detailed information about the membership of the territorial and district election commissions will be published on 29 June. Lidia Yermoshina revealed some of the figures.

Among 1,430 members of district election commissions 17% are public servants, about 5% are citizens under 30. A total of 970 members represent political parties and public associations, of them 195 are representatives of the parties. 77 members represent the Communist Party of Belarus, 42 members - the Republican Party of Labor and Justice. Five people represent Liberal Democratic Part and the Belarusian Popular Front (each).

A large share of members of the district election commissions represent the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (225 people, or 15.7%) and Belaya Rus (108 people).

4.4% of members of the territorial commissions are people under 30. A total of 69 people represent parties and public associations, 22 of them represent parties. The Communist Party of Belarus has one representative in all seven commissions. The Republican Party of Labor and Justice and the Liberal Democratic Part have 5. With regard to public associations, the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus has currently two representatives in each territorial election commission. Lidia Yermoshina explained: “The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus is an association of associations, therefore they nominate not one but two representative from individual unions not from the federation as a whole.”
