Voter turnout past 38% in municipal elections in Belarus as of 10:00

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The voter turnout during the elections to the municipal councils of deputies in Belarus exceeded 38% as of 10:00, BelTA learned from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus.

As many as 33.8% of the voters in Brest Oblast have cast their votes. Vitebsk Oblast reported 30.35%, Gomel Oblast — 40.51%, Grodno Oblast — 37.55%, Minsk Oblast — 37.64%, Mogilev Oblast — 39.86%, and the city of Minsk — 37.32%.

As many as 5,870 polling stations have been set up to take the nation's votes, including 250 ones in sanatoriums, health resorts, hospitals, and other in-patient healthcare institutions. As many as 17 polling stations have been opened in units of the Belarusian army.

As many as 6,929,525 Belarusians are on the voter lists.

Elections to the 28th convocation municipal councils of deputies are in progress in Belarus today. All the polling stations were opened in a routine manner. They will stay open from 8:00 till 20:00. As many as 22,200 people stand as candidates, vying for slightly more than 18,000 seats in the local councils of deputies.
