Visit of Slovak delegation to Belarus viewed as new milestone in cooperation

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – The visit of the Slovak delegation to Belarus will be a new milestone in cooperation between the two countries, Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico said as he met with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 25 November, BelTA has learned.

The Slovak head of government said that he is absolutely open to any dialogue and is glad to have an opportunity to talk to the President of Belarus. “I visited Belarus for the first time in 2003. When I was driving through Minsk and its suburbs this time, I saw many new modern buildings,” Robert Fico said.

“We began our dialogue in 2003, and this dialogue was continued in 2009 when the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs visited Belarus. The dialogue was continued after 2010, but it was less active,” the Prime Minister of Slovakia said.

“I am very glad that the today's meetings can be viewed as a new milestone in bilateral relations,” Robert Fico stressed. He emphasized that this time he arrived in Minsk as the prime minister of an independent country – Slovakia, the country presiding in the EU.

Slovakia views Belarus as a friendly country, Robert Fico underlined.
