Uzbekistan ready to appoint ambassador to Belarus

SOCHI, 11 October (BelTA) - Uzbekistan is ready to appoint an ambassador to Belarus, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Sochi, BelTA has learned.

The Uzbekistan president noted that in recent years the cooperation between the two countries has increased markedly. The states demonstrate achievements in trade and economic avenues. “Next year I would like to have a full-fledged ambassador of Uzbekistan in Belarus (today it is concurrent accreditation to Belarus and Russia – note by BelTA) because we see growth in all economic sectors,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

He noted that the two countries have developed a serious road map for the development of cooperation and companies of Uzbekistan want to cooperate with Belarus in many areas. For example, there is a joint venture in Tashkent that assembles Amkodor vehicles. Uzbekistan is ready to develop cooperation in this regard.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also suggested setting joint ventures to produce textile goods because Uzbekistan is famous for its cotton. In his opinion, there are prospects for developing cooperation in agriculture, information technology and medicine. The Uzbekistan president also touched on the military-technical cooperation, thanked the Belarusian side for the development of interaction in this field. “We want to make this cooperation strategic, long term,” he said.
