UNECE urged to help restore cooperation between West and EEU

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - The UN Economic Commission for Europe should direct its efforts to restore the pace of cooperation between the West and the Eurasian Economic Union, Galymzhan Koyshybaev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, said when speaking at the international conference “Laying the foundation in the UNECE region for economic. Integration and sustainable development towards 2030”, BelTA has learned.

Given the turbulence in international financial markets and the difficulties facing the global economy, the EEU is going through an extra strength test. The drop in prices for the main export commodities amid the mutual sanctions of Russia and Western countries have had a negative impact on the external trade with third countries and mutual trade of the EEU member states, Galymzhan Koyshybaev said.

“In this regard, we once again call on our partners in the West and Russia to engage in a constructive dialogue and restore the previous pace of economic cooperation. It is for this purpose that the regional institutions, including the UNECE, should aim for,” Galymzhan Koyshybaev noted.
