UN Special Rapporteur's report on human rights in Belarus slammed as biased

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – The report by the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus is of no value to the country, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told the media on 1 June, BelTA has learned.

“Unfortunately, this report is just as biased as the previous one. It is of no value to Belarus. It is also of no value to the countries that initiated both this report and also the post of the Special Rapporteur. Our position on this mandate remains unchanged: it is of no value to the Republic of Belarus. We believe that the majority of the UN member states share our approaches and opinion of this mandate and disagree with the approaches and conclusions expressed by the UN Special Rapporteur in the report,” Dmitry Mironchik underlined.

According to him, a Belarusian delegation will partake in the session of the UN Human Rights Council. “The delegation will not attend the session just to hear out the report. This report is not some extraordinary event but just a part of the UN routine work,” the spokesman added.
