MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) – The resolution on Belarus that the UN Human Rights Council passed on 6 July is absurd in concept and essence, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The resolution is absurd in concept and essence. We reject this document as politically biased and misrepresenting the real state of affairs in our country,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The ministry believes that the fact that a minority of UN Human Rights Council members voted in favor of the resolution is significant. Of the 46 UNHRC members 27 ones voted against or abstained from voting. “Unfortunately, such political manipulations are becoming a widespread practice in the work of a number of international structures. Moreover – and it looks comical – the resolution was passed despite the serious problems with human rights and freedoms in the countries, which submitted and voted in favor of the resolution,” pointed out the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“It is time the initiators recognized the fact that the resolution and the so-called special rapporteur are played-out mechanisms, which have fully discredited themselves in their work with Belarus. One can hardly devise a more useless instrument for this topic,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is convinced.
BelTA has been told that there are no countries in the world where human rights are perfectly observed. Belarus constantly works to improve the state of human rights, including within the framework of various formats with foreign partners.
“We are rightfully considered one of the most stable countries in the region. With its deeds Belarus persistently confirms its openness and readiness for an equal dialogue and constructive interaction. We expect our partners to follow the same approach in order to secure much larger progress,” the ministry concluded.
