UN Deputy Secretary General to pay working visit to Belarus

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) - UN Deputy Secretary General Amina J. Mohammed is set to arrive in the Belarusian capital Minsk on 20 February. She is expected to attend the Regional Forum of Sustainable Development Goals Coordinators in Minsk on 21 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

On 20 February, the UN high official is scheduled to meet with Mikhail Myasnikovich, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic, and Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic, National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Amina J. Mohammed is also set to visit the national rehabilitation center for children with disabilities and a meeting with representatives of the youth of Belarus. On 21 February, she will meet with Belarus' Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei.

The Forum of National SDG Coordinators in Minsk on 21-22 February is expected to bring together 54 high representatives of international organizations and various agencies, bodies and institutions of the UN (UNIDO, FAO, UNCTAD, UNAIDS), representatives of the World Bank, EBRD, and also the Eurasian Economic Commission. The Minsk forum will gather delegations from more than 50 countries. The forum participants will share the experiences in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and discuss the implementation of the Agenda-2030. The main goal of the meeting is to establish a regional network of national SDG coordinators.

The United Nations adopted the Agenda-2030 on 25 September 2015. It includes 17 goals aimed at eradicating poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, mitigating the climate change.
