Ukraine presents concept of law on local elections in conflict zone

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The Ukrainian side presented a concept of the law on the conditions for holding local elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts during the talks of the contact group on Ukraine in Minsk on 27 October, OSCE special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik told media, BelTA informs.

“At the plenary session of the trilateral contact group Ukraine presented a concept of the draft law on the special terms of applying the Ukrainian law on local elections when holding snap local elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts,” said Martin Sajdik.

The OSCE special representative did not comment on the details of the concept stressing that this is an affair of the Ukrainian side.

He also drew attention to the fact that the working group on political affairs once again held an intense meeting that lasted two days on 26 and 27 October. The meeting participants heard a report by a Kazakh OSCE/ODIHR expert and completed the first round of exchanging the views on the working document about the conditions for holding local elections in the conflict zone.

For its part, the working group on security continued talks on de-mining and de-escalating the conflict in the region around Shirokino. Martin Sajdik once again stressed the importance of solving the issue of de-mining.

The working group on economic affairs continued to discuss the issues raised previously, including the restoration of water supplies and cashless payments.
