Ukraine calls for unconditional ceasefire in conflict zone by 1 September

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Ukraine calls for ceasing fire in the conflict zone in the country's east by 1 September, BelTA learned from First Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Irina Gerashchenko, who represents Kiev in the working group on humanitarian affairs of the trilateral contact group on resolving the crisis in Ukraine, on 26 August.

“We insist that fire must be stopped unconditionally. It is particularly important in view of 1 September. Today in all the four subgroups the Ukrainian side put forward the initiative that prior to 1 September all the sides must cease fire because not only military personnel but civilians also suffer,” stressed Irina Gerashchenko.

In her words, there are 126 educational institutions along the conflict line in Lugansk Oblast alone. Children could not go to schools in certain areas last year due to armed hostilities. “There is no doubt we should think about the safety of kids. We would like the ceasefire regime to be observed without any violations,” noted the First Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament.
